2021 Washington, DC (Veterans Administration Medical Center) Winter Haven/Stand Down – Update

Greetings Everyone:

The purpose of this correspondence is to make you aware that due to the
COVID-19 (Delta-Variant), and its’ devastating impact, the date, time,
and place, of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Medical
Center (VAMC) 2021 Winter Haven/Stand Down plans have changed. The VAMC
will be doing a Winterhaven ‘Lite’ again this year, and the date has
changed to Saturday, November 6, 2021. Winterhaven Lite is when the
VAMC will deliver the donated items to Veterans. Donated items will be
taken to the transitional housing programs, shelters, and hotels that
our veterans are currently, or temporarily housed. Donated items will
also be delivered to Veterans on the street and in HUD/VASH programs.
The VAMC is planning to begin the delivering of items on Saturday,
November 6, 2021, and deliver during the month of November.

In advance of this annual event, beginning Monday, September 6, 2021
through Friday, November 5, 2021, Accessing Housing, Inc. (Southeast
Veterans Service Center) will partner with National Football League –
Retired Players Association (NFL-RPA) Washington, DC Chapter,
Technology, Inc. (of Fairfax, VA.), the Washington, DC VAMC, and other
local and federal partners, to ‘Kick Off’ the 11th Annual ‘Walk In
Their Foot Steps’ new boots and shoes collection for homeless female
and male veterans in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The COVID-19, and Delta-Variant, Pandemic, is having a devastating
impact on our homeless veterans, as well as those veterans transitioning
from homelessness to stable housing, and their families. The need for
assistance to our homeless female and male veterans, and their families,
has increased exponentially. This partnership, and your tax deductible
‘in-kind’ donation will go a long way to assist those homeless
veterans, veterans at-risk of homelessness, and veterans transitioning
from homelessness to stable housing.

Please note, that we will not accept cash donations. Only ‘In-Kind’
donations will be accepted however, your ‘In-Kind’ donation of new
boots and shoes is considered a taxable donation (501C3) for which a
donation receipt can be provided, if requested.

Because of the devastating impact of COVID-19 the drop-off location for
the new boots/shoes is:

* Southeast Veterans Service Center

820 Chesapeake Street, SE
