NAAV Attends Seventh Annual Steam Fair and Reception

 

The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) attended the Seventh Annual Steam Fair and Reception sponsored by the Women’s Congressional Policy Institute held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in cooperation with Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence and Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, Co-Chairs, Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues and Congresswoman Madeleine Dean & Congresswoman Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon, Vice Chairs, Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues.  A brief program was presented by the Women’s Caucus leadership from 6-6:30 p.m. at the 2043-2045 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C.  Over 150 attendees with over fifteen exhibits, featuring both public and private sector STEAM programs that encourage girls and women to pursue STEAM education and careers.  The Women’s Congressional Policy Institute nonprofit partners included: Girl Scouts of the USA; National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine; MD Center for Women in Computing, U of MD College Park; Patriots Technology Center; and Society of Women Engineers.   Federal partners included: National Aeronautics and Space Administration; National Institutes of Health Office of Research on Women’s Health, National Science Foundation; Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Minority Veterans; Center for Women Veterans, and the Veteran Employment Services Office.  For more information contact the Women’s Congressional Policy Institute, 409 12th Street, SW, Suite 702, Washington, DC 20024 or call (202) 554-2323; website: www.wcpinst.org.

 

Money Management 1-2-3 Train-the-Trainer

 

The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) participated in the Consumer Action Money Management 1-2-3 Train-the-Trainer Sessions sponsored by Consumer Action of Los Angeles, California and held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the YMCA Anthony Bowen, 1325 W Street, NW, Washington, DC from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Capital Event Room.  Over forty attendees including managers, nonprofit and for-profit business owners, and skilled professionals attended this training which covered all aspects of money management.

 

This training is designed for staff members, volunteers of community groups, libraries, local government and social service agencies who serve the working poor, recent immigrants, welfare-to-work recipients, self-employed individuals, Servicemembers and Veterans, and others working toward financial empowerment.  The training instructors provided information, tools and resources to use to help assist clients to meet their changing financial needs such as strategies to help consumers just starting out, or those starting over, to establish financial goals and build a strong financial foundation; strategies to help consumers continue to achieve their financial goals through budget updates, accumulation of a nest egg and by protecting their assets; and strategies to help consumers plan a secure future as they prepare to leave the workforce for retirement.

Army Community Service

Fort Belvoir, Virginia

 

The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) Constance A. Burns, President and Chief Executive Officer attends the Army Community Service celebration of its 54 years of serving Soldiers and their families held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Army Community Service, 5965 6th Street, Bldg. 1263, Fort Belvoir, Virginia 22060.  Over 200 attendees were present to give their best wishes to ACS from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Special guests, staff, volunteers, Soldiers and their families were given free food, cakes, cold sodas and ice cream including games for children attending.  

 

The NAAV donated $350.00 on July 30, 2019 to the Fort Belvoir Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) for use in support of Soldiers and families assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion.  The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization.  Our mission is to provide direct assistance to Servicemembers, Veterans, their families and caregivers most in need nationwide.  In cooperation with supporters, partners, and sponsors NAAV also provides assistance with VA claims and benefits, caregiver respite care, emergency assistance resources and referrals, and assistance with legal, housing and employment.  Over the past fourteen years Servicemembers, Veterans and their families have received over one 2.5 million in assistance including in-kind contributions.  For a membership application or donation, please contact Constance A.
