On June 8, 2026, the National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) a non-profit 501 (c ) (3) veterans service organization received two poems from Janice Walker, a U.S. Army veteran of Macon, Georgia that NAAV gave rental and household emergency assistance relief to this year. Her two poems were published in the Veterans’ Voices Magazine in the Spring 2026 Edition titled “I Am Grateful for the Kindness of Others” and “Prayer in Season and Out of Season.”

I Am Grateful for the Kindness of Others by Janice Walker, Macon, GA

Sometimes I find myself in need of help from others.

I’m so very grateful for the times I was blessed by another.

Grateful when I experience caring and lovingly was blessed

with times of sharing, caring, and kindness. Grateful for any

help I have received, for kindness given to me. Kindness,

a fruit of the Holy Spirit is such a gift, so loving, so good,

so perfect.

Prayer in Season and Out of Season by Janice Walker, Macon, GA

Along this path of life my journey has brought me to my knees to Christ.

The Lord opened my eyes so I could see that He was really love and my

source of peace.

In amazing grace is a fear, uneasy and unsure, yet my soul found God’s

Spirit was my cure.

When I question, I would pray; sometimes answers didn’t come right away.

Seeking, searching, even writing “Dear God, Dear God” in my prayers, I

found God to be my friend, my father and mother, someone who

unconditionally cares.

Prayer in Season and Out of Season by Janice Walker, Macon, GA (Continued)

Prayers can be such comfort when I know not what to do.

Prayer is God’s gift to us, how He loves me and you.

What inspiration! God in prayer I find. God, our creator

is patient, loving and kind.

A few times I was so very sick, at death’s door, but somehow I

survived, sought God even more.

How thankful I am for the gift of prayer, whether personal prayer or

asking another to pray and care.

Prayer is a means to connect with God. Sometimes it comforts and

helps us feel better. God is with us, within us, our very life forever.

Prayer, prayer in season, out of season, prayer at any time, for any

reason. I love; I love prayer.

The National Association of American Veterans, Inc. (NAAV) offers monthly Spiritual Wellness, Scripture Readings and Moments of Meditation messages on its website at www.naavets.org to provide encouragement and comfort from the Holy Bible for our nation’s service members, veterans and their caregivers and family members nationwide.

All too often, severely injured soldiers, disabled veterans and their families do not get any extra financial help during their recovery period. Soldiers only get their base pay, and their medical care covered. Retired veterans suffer from income loss due to the nature of their injuries. Usually, veterans will apply to non-profit organizations such as NAAV to help them to be able to stay at the military hospitals, to get assistance for clothes for their children, travel home and back, and family household needs such as rental, utility, and telephone bills. Most often it is a very difficult and sad time for the family, managing medical problems along with mounting financial household difficulties. Your donation will help support those who served and are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces worldwide. Visit ww.naavets.org click on Donate Today!

Veterans Voices Magazine is a Veteran Magazine founded in 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. Veterans Voices Magazine is a Veteran Magazine created with Veterans in mind as well as civilian supporters and family members. The Mission of the Veterans Voices Writing Project is to enable military veterans to experience solace and satisfaction through their writing program. The organization’s team believe that writing and graphic arts can help veterans process thoughts, feelings, and ideas they otherwise keep hidden, sometimes masking PTSD. Seeing their writing and art published in Veterans’ Voices magazine builds self-esteem and helps heal and improves mental health. The Veterans Voices managers believe that expressing our feelings and thoughts written and visual artistic expression allows us to get our feelings out, memorialize them through art and hold them up to examine, reflect on and use to foster healthy change and relationships.
